Love
Familial, romantic, platonic, unrequited or Christian - love has an infinite number of facets. Hardly any other feeling occupies us humans longer, more intensely and in a more complex way, and hardly anything has received more creative attention than our affairs of the heart. Love was part of the standard repertoire in medieval art and literature. It can be found in Minne-songs, epic novels, illuminated books and even stained glass. Love slips into a variety of guises and appears in many forms: as Lady Minne, she walks the courts and oversees hunting parties of the medieval nobility; as Caritas, she leads the faithful to God in churches and monasteries. And love is always a lady who must be treated with caution. She seems to be a fair maiden waiting in a tower to be rescued by a handsome knight? Wrong! Lady Minne is known to pierce people with arrows and even Christ is not safe from the dagger of Caritas!
