Scope of data collection, processing and use
In principle, we aim to limit the collection, processing and use of personal data during your visit to our websites to the necessary minimum. We also generally only collect the data from you that we absolutely need for certain purposes.
We also do not knowingly collect personal data from minors (= people under 18 years of age).
In cases where we find that personal data has been made available to us by minors, we delete this data immediately if no subsequent process follows.

Personal data
According to Art. 4 GDPR, personal data is all information that relates to an identified or identifiable natural person.
This includes, for example: Information such as first and last name, address, email address, telephone or mobile number, but usually also the IP address.
Purpose of data processing
If you voluntarily provide us with your data for the purposes listed below, we will process and use this data exclusively for the purposes for which you sent us your data.
These currently include the following purposes:
Improving our online presence
To improve the design, content and user-friendliness of our websites, as well as the functions of our online presence, we collect, process and use the following data:
- IP address of the computer accessing the website
- Date and time of accessing the pages
- URL path of the requested page/file and desired method of access
- Access status of the web server (e.g. file transferred, file not found)
- Amount of data transferred
- Information about the software used for access (usually browser type and version, operating system of the accessing computer)
- URL from which the page/file was accessed
The Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen uses the stored access log data to identify and track unauthorised access and attempted unauthorised access to the website. The server log files are stored for a period of 14 days and then deleted.
In order to optimise the website, the stored access log data is evaluated in an anonymised form. With this data, people can no longer be identified.
We collect, process and use this data exclusively for the statistical and non-commercial purposes mentioned above in an anonymised or pseudonymised form, so that no conclusions can be drawn about you personally.
YouTube plugins and YouTube videos
Our websites contain YouTube plugins and videos published on the “YouTube” platform. YouTube is a service provided by Google Inc.
When you visit our websites that contain a YouTube plugin or video, a connection is established to YouTube’s servers and YouTube is informed which of our websites you have visited. YouTube places cookies on your device.
If you are logged into your YouTube account while visiting our websites that contain a YouTube plugin or video, YouTube can assign your visit of our websites to your YouTube account.
If you are logged into your YouTube account while visiting our websites that contain a YouTube plug-in or video and activate a YouTube plug-in by selecting a video button on our websites or leave a comment on our video uploaded to YouTube, YouTube will assign this information to your YouTube account. If you do not want YouTube to collect, process or use data about your visit to our websites and link it to your user account, you must log out of YouTube before visiting our websites and block YouTube from setting cookies in your browser or delete cookies that YouTube has already set in the past from your computer. Linked websites
Our websites have links to external websites. We have no influence on the content of these websites and therefore accept no responsibility or liability for the legality, accuracy, presentation and completeness of the content published, displayed or accessible there. We hereby inform you that when you access these external websites, your IP address may be logged by the respective website operator. When you leave our websites, we recommend that you check the privacy policy of the external website operator before accessing the websites or using the functions there.
Right to information
Website visitors to our online presence have the right, in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR, to receive information about the personal data processed about them at the University of Tübingen upon request, at any time and free of charge. Right to rectification of your data
According to Art. 16 GDPR, you have the right to request that incorrect or incomplete data about you be rectified or completed. We will examine such requests and take the necessary measures in justified cases.
Right to deletion and blocking of your data
According to Art. 17 GDPR, you have the right to have your data deleted. The data we store about you will be destroyed or deleted in accordance with data protection regulations if
- the statutory retention periods have expired, or
- the collection or processing is or was unlawful, or
- the data is no longer required to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, or
- if you have withdrawn your consent to processing and use
- if you object to the processing of your data in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR and there are no overriding legitimate reasons for the processing.
- We would like to inform you that complete deletion will only take place after the relevant deadlines under tax and commercial law have expired. Until these deadlines expire and until they are finally deleted, your data will be blocked accordingly and will not be processed by us any further.
Right to restriction of data processing
According to Art. 18 GDPR, you have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your data in the cases and to the extent specified in Art. 18 GDPR. We will examine such requests and take the necessary measures in justified cases.
Right to data portability
According to Art. 20 GDPR, you have the right to receive the data we process about you in a structured, conventional and machine-readable format. At your explicit request, we will transmit your data to the bodies you have clearly specified, provided that we are technically able to do so and this is permissible under data protection law.
Right to revocation and objection
You have the right to revoke the consent you have given us to collect, process and use your data for the future at any time and without giving reasons, free of charge, or to object to the processing of your data in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR. Right to complain to a supervisory authority
According to Art. 14 in conjunction with Art. 77 GDPR, you have the right to complain to a supervisory authority for data protection if you believe that the processing of your data violates the GDPR. The responsible supervisory authority is the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts Baden-Württemberg.
Right to an effective judicial remedy against the person responsible
According to Art. 79 GDPR, you have the right to an effective judicial remedy if you believe that your previously listed rights have been violated because of us or a processor commissioned by us processing your data in a way that does not comply with the requirements of the GDPR.
Liability and right to compensation
According to Art. 82 GDPR, you have the right to compensation from us or the processors commissioned by us if you have suffered material or immaterial damage due to a violation of the GDPR.
Change to the data protection declaration
This data protection declaration will be updated with effect for the future if there are new legal requirements or significant changes to the range of functions of our websites. We therefore recommend that you read our data protection declaration at regular intervals.
